Formula:
Domperidone 10 g.; Excipients q.s. 100 g
Indications:
Indicated in mares intoxicated by mycotoxins containing indole-derived alkaloids or ergot alkaloids resulting from grazing on pastures associated with natural rye grass or tall fescue. These mycotoxins arise from the biosynthesis of symbiotic endophytes, such as Neotyphodium Lolii (natural rye grass) or Neotyphodium Coenophialum (fescue), or other parasitic fungi of the seed heads (Claviceps sp) in other grasses. Indole alkaloid substances cause, at different stages of a mare's reproductive cycle, various symptoms such as agalactia, placental abnormalities, prolonged foaling, resorptions and lack of estrus. In the gestating foal numerous conditions are also observed, including respiratory failure, osteoarticular abnormalities, decreased serum immunoglobulin and perinatal death.
Dosage and methods of administration:
The product should be applied at the indicated doses, orally, deep onto the upper part of the tongue, by relatively quick pressure on the paste, which prevents the animal from spitting out the product. It is preferable that the animal has no feed in its mouth. The dose is 1.1 mg/kg body weight (550 mg/animal). Administer 1 dose daily (5.5 g of paste containing 550 mg of Domperidone) per animal. Each syringe contains 6 doses of 5.5 g. Administration should begin daily starting 30 days before the expected foaling date. Treatment may be continued after foaling depending on the mare's condition, as it is also indicated in mares beginning lactation with reduced or absent milk production. In this case it is not necessary to extend treatment beyond 20 days. In mares with low ovarian activity, administer for 60 days after breeding to maintain the primary corpus luteum.
Precautions and warnings:
Administer with caution when given together with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, e.g.: ketoconazole, ritonavir and erythromycin. Should not be administered together with atropine.
